Daycare Photo Journal

February 2008: Welcome to February, whose days are best known individually for Valentines, Groundhogs, and occasional Leaping, and collectively for Black History, Suicide Prevention, and - did you know? - Responsible Dog Owners. Not to be outdone by the Hallmark emotional blackmail machine, the American Kennel Club ambitiously dubbed both February and September as special months to spread the word about having, getting, and keeping the stuff required to be recognized by friends, family, and community as a Responsible Dog Owner. Parties and parades were organized, clowns and face-painters were hired, posters were hung, and speeches were spoken. After a couple of years, though, they recognized what Hallmark already knew - that Americans can't focus on anything for very long without regular infusions of adrenalin or alcohol, certainly not for an entire month, and never for two months in one calendar year. So now it's just a quiet sort of event, just an extra hyperlink or two on various and sundry web sites, now including this one. If you're still reading this, I'm preaching to the choir, but nonetheless will provide said hyperlink. Maybe you know someone who knows someone who can use a pointer or two: [ Be a responsible dog owner ] Yippee-ki-yay, February! -- Bev
